Tiff Needell pits latest Porsche 911 Carrera S against Nissan GT-R

Tiff Needell with Porsche 911 Carrera S and Nissan GT-R

Few rivalries are as heated as that between the Nissan GT-R and the Porsche 911. And with both models having recently been updated, Evo magazine has taken the updated GT-R and the new 911 Carrera S to the Bedford Autodrome for a little head-on-head action. And who better to put in front of the camera and behind the wheel than Tiff Needell, the longtime Fifth Gear co-host who's now doing a series of video tests for the magazine British enthusiasts love best.

Now if you're thinking that the GT-R really ought to be compared to the 911 Turbo and not the naturally aspirated 911 Carrera S, well, you're probably right. Particularly since Nissan hiked the price on its latest performance flagship to nearly $100,000. But Porsche hasn't released the turbocharged version of its latest 911, so the Carrera S will have to do. Skip past the break to see how they compare, as well as which one is Tiff's favorite.

Nissan Leaf-based Infiniti concept car headed to New York

Infiniti E-merge concept, front three-quarter view

The all-electric Leaf hasn't exactly set the sales charts ablaze since it hit the market, but it has succeeded in delivering a zero-emissions halo to the Nissan brand, and the model's fortunes are poised to improve now that it's a 50-state offering. What's more, TheDetroitBureau.com reports that the electric love will soon migrate over to Nissan's luxury marque, but with a lot of Leaf under some sexier sheetmetal.

We've heard rumors of an Infiniti-branded EV concept for some time now, but details on the electric concept car have been scarce to this point. Now, the automaker tells TDB that it will feature G-Series-inspired styling with a sprinkling of inspiration from the Emerg-E concept (pictured above). Infiniti wants to frame the unnamed concept as a luxury car first and EV second, with more performance and a larger battery pack than the Leaf's 24 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion setup.

The concept will reportedly also utilize a 6kWh charger that will charge a spent battery in about half the time needed for the Leaf. The beefier charger is likely to make it to production, since the Leaf will reportedly get the 6kWh unit by December.

Latest 2013 Nissan Altima teaser shows strong profile [w/video]

2013 Nissan Altima profile teaser

The slow drip of official information for Nissan's 2013 Altima continues to spread across the internet. Today, the Japanese automaker has unveiled a (very) short video clip and a shady single image that hints at the expressive profile sheetmetal on its new family sedan. The video is very brief, but together with the other images we've seen depicting the new boomerang-shaped taillamps, headlamps and overhead view, we're starting to mentally stitch together a composite view of the new car.

We couldn't resist helping Nissan accelerate its reveal process by tinkering with Photoshop's brightness and contrast controls a bit. You can see the result in our gallery which reveals a nicely rounded three-window greenhouse and a set of split five-spoke alloys. In addition, check out the short video after the jump while you're waiting for live shots and impressions to drop from New York.

Nissan teases new Altima's headlight and grille

2013 Nissan Altima Teaser

Nissan has given the world another glimpse of the upcoming 2013 Altima in the form of the video after the jump. While we've already seen a quick glimpse of a test vehicle thanks to a previous clip and an overhead shot via the very first official teaser, the newest video gives us our best look yet at the front fascia and headlight array. Judging by the quick peek, the 2013 Altima will rock a much more stylized front end than in the past, complete with design elements borrowed from the likes of the Maxima and 370Z.

Word has it Nissan will also make use of the same character line we've seen on the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder. Look for the next-generation Altima to debut at the 2012 New York Auto Show next month. In the meantime, see below for the newest, albeit brief, teaser.

Nissan Versa named IIHS Top Safety Pick [w/video]

2012 Nissan Versa sedan crash test

We may not have found much to like about the redesigned 2012 Nissan Versa sedan when we test drove it, but here's something in its favor: A Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

While the old Nissan subcompact never made it to the top of the IIHS rankings, the new sedan earned its award by scoring "good" ratings in front, side, rollover, and rear tests and coming equipped with standard stability control, according to the IIHS. The 2011 and earlier Versas only scored "acceptable" in side impact and roof strength tests.

Keep in mind that the Top Safety Pick only applies to the new sedan, as a redesigned version of the hatchback has not yet launched. The 2012 Versa hatchback is the same design that's been on sale since the 2007 model year.

See below for a video of the IIHS side impact test on the Versa sedan.

Showdown: Nissan Juke-R pitted against GT-R on track

Now that Nissan UK is finished with the dog-and-pony promotional show for the Nissan Juke-R, it's free to do what we've all been waiting for: hand it over to The Fourth Estate for proper testing. AutoExpress was the first in line, and they didn't waste the chance, pitting Faust's CUV against the car that made it possible, the Nissan GT-R, around the Bedford Autodrome circuit.

We could tell you more, but this isn't the time for words - the long-awaited action is in the video after the jump. Still want more? There's an article to go with it over on AutoExpress.

Nissan reveals latest glimpse at 2013 Altima as NY show approaches [w/video]

2013 Nissan Altima teaser

So where are we at with the 2013 Nissan Altima? We've seen an overhead shot teased, along with a peek at its front fascia. We've seen a shot of the car leaked in a promotional video, and of course, our spy photographers snapped the car in a conventional disguise, but got a good look at its interior in the process.

Now Nissan comes with this, a brief video that shows off the Altima's new hind end. Like most every sedan on the market these days, it looks like the fourth-best-selling vehicle of 2011 will be getting a bit of a Bangle butt. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) We do get the first really good view of the Altima's taillights, which have a bit of Lexus spindle thing going on.

We'll have to wait until the New York Auto Show on April 4-5 to see the full reveal, though we wouldn't put it past Nissan to eke out another shot or two of the car before then.

Click on the image above to enlarge, then feel free to see the very brief video yourself below.

Nissan Invitation Concept invites Honda Fit comparisons

Take a Nissan Micra, give it the face of a Honda Fit, let designers from Renault work on the rear and add a sweet white and orange interior and you have yourself a B-segment concept that Nissan calls the Invitation.

On the ground in Switzerland at the Geneva Motor Show, Chris Paukert agrees that the Invitation is "Fit-esque," and that it looks good in person. Not bad in photos, either. The official Nissan press release describes the design as, "The clean fluidity of the silhouette hints at its dynamic potential and showcases class-leading aerodynamics for enhanced efficiency. "

Expect a production version of the Invitation sometime in 2013 in Europe. No indication from Nissan about U.S. availability, though.

Check out the full press release below for more details.
